NKBA Awards 08 - Large bathrooms
NKBA means National Kitchen & Bath Association. 08 NKBA Design Competition open only to members NKBA. It recognizes the talent of designer kitchen and bath to plan safe, functional and personalized spaces that incorporate statements of imaginative design and aesthetic solutions. This year, the NKBA received a record number of entries? nearly 580 projects. Although the winners were announced in the spring, I think they deserve a mention.
The competition is divided in different categories. Large bathrooms is one of them
Large bathrooms First Place -. Siri Evju
Siri Enju works DESIGNS SIRI, Portland. The bathroom was a part of the complete home renovation. The photo is made by Steve Taque.
After designing the bathroom now has visual appeal and several luxury amenities. The overall impression is a warm and elegant look with organic elements contrasting horizontal lines.
The wood floor in the transitions room / hallway in the quartzite stone floor of the bathroom. A wooden soffit was created around the room to lower the vaulted ceiling. A half wall Mica stone cornice separates the vanity of the bath area. The quartzite rock increasingly on the floor and the privacy wall creates a seat to dry. New windows bring in natural light and vanity mirrors are trimmed to match. The large shower / steam room has a rain shower and was wrapped in sandstone planking, with a small window corresponding to the form of tiles. The most unusual feature is a waterfall, which descends sandstone wall tiles in a bed of pebbles.

The existing room was small and outdated. A planned addition would provide opportunities for a spacious bathroom that would flow well with the master bedroom. Requests included a large bath tub, spacious shower with various shower head options, separate sinks, marble old world decor to reflect the elegance of a European spa.
A new high arch, flanked by columns, was designed to separate toilet and shower in bath and vanity areas. An airy glass enclosed shower, finished in subway tiles, included a generous bench for safety. A waterproof shower flooded with natural light.
A luxurious spacious bath tub was centered under the bay window and dazzled by a crystal chandelier above. Large double French doors more connected rooms. Honed Carara Italian marble on the spa deck, vanity countertops, mosaic floor mats, shower tray line and niches in contrast to the high gloss mirror and vintage style polished nickel faucets. romantic flowing curves of the roof with rounded fronts furniture style vanities and symmetrically balanced bridge spa.

This master bath retreat has been created off the master bedroom on what was once a cedar platform barely used. Hydrotherapy oval bath begs you relax by the fireplace stainless steel gas with stunning views of external nature.
bright and airy feel of the room makes it more like a living room than a bath. The room is spacious enough for two people to relax and enjoy the spa kind of comfort without feeling at all cramped. The color palette makes the warm and relaxing atmosphere with its elegant appearance.
Floating vanities against the South American slate walls inlaid with glass tiles accentuate the modern luxury feel. glass pendants hand-blown dance on the ceiling and pull the beautiful copper color glass wells up. When there is no time for a bath, the entrance open clear glass shower wall with a small integrated office is a comfortable shower space.

The owners wanted an elegant hot for this master bathroom aesthetics, but they also needed to maximize storage while maintaining an open look, uncluttered. The shower and water closet occupy separate areas for privacy, allowing vanity / central area shared bathroom as a living room / dressing room.
A subtle monochromatic palette of bright colors and multiple mirrors maximize natural light window. A large wardrobe fitted in a niche between the water inlet and a construction column provides a large storage. The use of bypass doors eliminates door swings that could interfere with the placement of a comfortable chair.
The wells bases are flanked by decorative pilasters and fired a few inches to add dimension and visual interest to the race of 15 feet of the base cabinets. Drawer banks were manufactured to customer demanding dimensions to maximize the storage of cosmetic products and other toiletries.
