Stunning modern retreat Located near a quiet pond
This single-family residence 1,440 square feet and 550 sf guest house was designed by Cutler Anderson Architects to expand the owners' already strong emotional connection with the living world. The site was an artificial pond on a farm invaded the area of the owners that was not conducive to the cultivation. The house was designed to blend in with its natural surroundings and has large windows overlooking the large pond. The open house is built mostly from wood, and has a small deck off the back that serves as a diving board.
The design attempts to make the pond and residence of a single entity in which the owners can enjoy and connect with the wild creatures that come to water on both regular and varied schedules. To this end, the building was positioned as a bridge on the north end of the pond. The pond itself was enlarged and vaguely ordered to incorporate the structure of the residence.
The site plan was organized so that visitors park their vehicles at 150 feet away. They then walk through the forest to a bridge over a small section of the pond, and in the main entrance. The vast panorama of the lake is visible on opening the front door. It is hoped that this experience will be memorable for visitors.
Designed as a simple steel frame with a wood roof structure, the main box contains a kitchen, living / dining room and master bedroom. A "link" inner mudroom connects the house to the garage. For guests to discover the location, the guest house is connected by a covered outdoor walkway.
The decor is modern with lots of natural wood and beige leather, and it is completely centered around the views, so there are large windows framed in warm wood color, and the furniture is in light wood. The color palette is natural :. Brown, beige, beige and all the other nuances that have a close relationship with nature
